The brief
An academic research project: a personal finance system built around an AI chatbot. The assistant answers money questions in plain language, categorises spending automatically and turns the running balance into budgeting and investment suggestions the user can act on - no manual ledger entry.
How it was built
The team started from a research question: can a personal finance app stay useful when it only gets data when someone remembers to enter it? Our answer was an AI chatbot that pulls transactions in and explains them, plus automated financial tracking that keeps the ledger current on its own. I owned the mobile experience end to end: the flows, the interface, the animation and the on-device state that keeps the app readable when the network is not there. The write-up covers the chatbot integration, the tracking rules and what we learned from testing it with real users.
